Jake Vickers, Ed Dowling and Sam Davies met at sixth form college in Northwich, Cheshire and The Zangwills line-up was completed by drummer Adam Spence from Chester in May 2017.
They released their debut single New Heights in December 2017 and have released music steadily since including 2 EP’s It’s Really Up to You and In Amongst the Glitter.
They have played national headlines dates as far apart as Edinburgh and Portsmouth, and their supports have included artists as diverse as Yungblud and The Charlatans.
‘The Horrors of Sobriety can reasonably be described as a true banger’ – Halfway 2 Nowhere
‘The Zangwills have smashed it’ – Popped Music
Each of them bring very different influences to the band and this, along with Jake’s unique voice, is reflected in their distinctive sound which is instantly recognisable.
Described as being: ‘Like nothing else out there, an immensely valuable quality when so many bands disappear into a slurry of sameness’ – Getintothis
‘These are dead, dead, DEAD good!’ – Adam Walton, BBC Introducing
Several music journalists and photographers were challenged to suggest whose fans they might appeal to. A consensus was reached that ‘early Arctic Monkeys’ would be a good fit. Luckily, the band does cite the Arctic’s amongst their influences, along with The Cure, Pearl Jam, The Smiths and The Strokes. Though the question can still cause a lively debate.
‘A young band with a lot of talent’ – The Pentatonic
The four-piece quickly gained a reputation for their strong live sets. With an enthusiastic following, their last two Manchester dates at Deaf Institute (Sept 2019) and Academy 3 (Feb 2020) were sold-out.
‘The Zangwills took the stage by storm’ – Gigsandtours
‘You are immediately drawn in from the start of the set’ – Northern Alive
Festival appearances have included Dot 2 Dot, Focus Wales, Sound City and a Saturday Mainstage appearance at Wychwood Festival 2020 alongside ABC.
